Med Group a sports dynamo

TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Maybe there's something in the water they drink or the air they breathe in Bldg. 1094, headquarters of the 72nd MDG, because the Med Group has become a multi-sport powerhouse at Tinker AFB.

Most recently, the Medics captured their second consecutive base flag football championship on May 8. The Med Group was undefeated in flag football this spring. In the 10 games they played, the Med Group was a virtually invincible juggernaut, outscoring their opponents 506-89, a margin of nearly 6-to-1.

The Med Group won the 2012 fall championship, too, and was the runner-up in the spring and fall seasons of 2011. (Air Force Reserve White edged the Med Group, 14-13, on the last play of the 2011 fall championship game.)

The Medics were 22-7 -- a .759 winning percentage -- in the last three seasons of the Spring Flag Football League, Commissioner Ralph Hawkins calculated recently.
In intramural basketball, the Medics were the runner-up in the large-squadron division this year. The Med Group won the base softball championship in 2012. And in soccer, the Med Group compiled a 6-2 record (.750) last year and finished third in the championship tournament, according to Chris Gaines of the 72nd Force Support Squadron.
