The Tinker AFB flag football league playoffs to determine the 2012 fall season champion start next Monday.

Only the top three teams in each division (Monday-Wednesday and Tuesday-Thursday) advance to the double-elimination playoffs, Sports Coordinator Chris Gaines of the 72nd Force Support Squadron noted. The Gym Rats, the 72nd Medical Group, Reserve White and the 33rd Combat Communications Squadron are shoo-ins for the playoffs.

Playoff games are scheduled Nov. 5, 6, 7, 8, 13 and 14, starting at 5 p.m. each day.
The playoff games, like the regular season games, will be held in the outfield of the softball fields in the northwest corner of the base.

Flag football games were relocated to the softball fields earlier this year because of extensive damage to the base football field. Steve Serrette of the 72nd Air Base Wing Safety Office closed the field March 9 because of "hazardous conditions" that included a leaking water line, potholes and uneven patches in the playing area.

Eight months later the football field still remains closed "due to the inadequate and unacceptable spot-patching that was done to it," Serrette explained recently. Turf for the gridiron has been ordered and is expected to arrive soon, he added.
