Pivotal success
Randy Orr, 565th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, injects liquid nitrogen into the pivot pin on a B-1 Bomber at Tinker for maintenance. The liquid nitrogen supercools the pin, which then shrinks, becoming easier to remove from the aircraft. The pin is what allows the aircraft’s wings to pivot when in flight. With only thousandths of a micrometer of space to spare, the prototype process requires much precision. (Air Force photo by Howdy Stout)
