Paces for prevention

A suicide prevention walk was held Aug. 29 in Midwest City. The walk was organized by Rocky Dunham, a tool and parts attendant in the 76th Maintenance Wing who lost his own son, Joey, to suicide in 2008. Brig. Gen Bruce Litchfield, 76th MXW commander, spoke to participants before the walk. He shared the Air Force’s Wingman ethos and said that in the community, neighbors, friends and family members are also wingmen. Everyone needs help at some point in their lives, he said, and there should be no shame in asking for it. There should also be no reluctance to speak up and get involved when depression is evident in another’s life, he said. Approximately 50 people attended the walk, including members of the Midwest City Police Department. Mr. Dunham plans to make the walk an annual event. (Air Force photo by Micah Garbarino)
