Homer Thompson
Homer Thompson served in World War II as an Army Infantryman, leaning on his M-1 rifle and brother Soldiers as they fought through Germany. Memories of D-Day, being a Prisoner of War, losing friends and the occasional compassion of the enemy are fresh in the veteran’s mind a half century later. Mr. Thompson was promoted to sergeant and earned a Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge among his medals, but downplays his service, asserting that “the heroes are the ones who didn’t come home.” (Air Force photo/Margo Wright)
