Vet says thanks

Elton Nimmo greets Tinker workers inside the Eaker Gate Wednesday and will smile and wave them home in the evening from inside the Vance Gate, The disabled veteran Army radio operator began waving, and often saluting, to those in uniform Aug. 1 with the passion to let the military know they are appreciated. “Troops don’t get enough recognition,” the retired private first class said. “I’d like to line up each troop and shake each hand. If I can make their day a little brighter, let them know what they’re doing makes a difference, than I go home feeling good.” Mr. Nimmo’s stepson is a Tinker security forces airman currently deployed and his son is with the Army, stationed at Peterson, AFB., Colo. Asked if the recent 106-degree days were an issue, he shrugs it off and waves at the next driver. “It’s a lot hotter in Iraq”, he said. (Air Force photo/Margo Wright)
