Crosswalk safety
School is back in session at Tinker Elementary August 12. The crosswalks will soon fill with children making morning treks to education and afternoon marches to freedom. The school is on Mitchell Road, which runs right through the housing area and is a major thoroughfare for servicemembers going to and returning from work. The speed limit in base housing is 15 miles per hour. This never changes, whether or not school is in session. Drivers are urged to take caution, observe the signs around these areas, obey the posted speed limit and remember that children don’t always pay attention when they are crossing the street. Vehicles traveling in both directions are required to stop when a pedestrian is using the crosswalk, in base housing or anywhere else on base.(Air Force photo/Margo Wright)
