Under Construction
On the Navy side, a new aircraft hangar is being built. According to Scott Appleton, the onsite government construction manager with Naval Facilities and Engineering Command, the four original hangars were meant to be operational hangars, for things such as an oil change or quick turn maintenance items. The life of the E-6B has been significantly extended with the development of a programmed depot maintenance schedule. The expertise of Navy engineers and Tinker artisans needed room to dedicate to PDM operations and execute their plan. The Navy reviewed the requirements, and at a cost of roughly $18 million, the decision was made to build a new hangar. It is estimated to be completed sometime in August.
