Program works on first impressions
Airman 1st Class Cosette Dahlvang, left, 552nd Maintenance Group aircraft parts store apprentice, and Airman 1st Class Karie Mees, 72nd Security Forces Squadron installation entry controller, talk to each other at the Mickey Mantle stop for the Oklahoma City Streetcar during a tour of downtown on March 8, 2019. Dahlvang and Mees were taking part in Tinker Air Force Base’s First Term Airmen Center special tour through a partnership with the base and the OKC Convention and Visitors Bureau which brings the military and civilian communities closer together. The group of Airmen spend part of a day downtown where they ride the new OKC Streetcar, for free, while learning about important landmarks, attractions and even where free parking is located. The downtown tour has quickly become a welcome capstone to the FTAC curriculum and, over time, should help integrate the military members with the community faster and smoother.
