Tinker Air Force Base organizations that require hardware, software, video teleconferencing and other communications assistance soon will have new procedures to follow.

The 72nd Air Base Wing Communications Directorate will transition to a Work Order module of the Air Force Cyberspace Infrastructure Planning System (CIPS) 5.0 to manage communications requirements.

The CIPS 5.0 Work Order (WO) module will replace all TAFB 3215 requests currently being used for hardware, software, base communications, applications hosting and video teleconferencing requirements at Tinker.

All new communications requirements will be accomplished through the WO module beginning May 1.

CIPS 5.0 WO does not replace trouble calls on existing hardware, software or systems. These will still be handled by the 72nd ABW/SC Communications Focal Point (CFP) Help Desk by calling 734-HELP (734-4357).

CIPS 5.0 WO is a new way of doing business and a huge culture change, for both SC and its customers, but it comes with many advantages.

It gives the Communications Directorate and its customers the opportunity to completely automate and streamline requirements processing, partially through the use of templates for standard work and by enabling simultaneous work.

Customers will find the CIPS 5.0 WO module greatly simplifies the method for requesting communications services that includes their unit’s internal coordination and approvals if they choose. They will also be able to see the real-time status of their requirements once submitted, with complete transparency, providing leadership better visibility of work being accomplished.

Organizations can expect to see a Memorandum for Record (MFR) distributed soon announcing the CIPS 5.0 implementation and defining roles, responsibilities and expectations. A key role is that of Submitter: these are personnel designated to input requirements for their organizations directly into the CIPS 5.0 Work Order module.

The CIPS 5.0 User Information site, https://cipsaf.tinker.af.mil/user/Index.html, has primers, training modules and videos available to all CIPS users. If additional training is required after the CIPS 5.0 training modules have been completed, 72nd ABW/SC will schedule classroom training upon request.

The 72nd ABW/SC is thrilled to have the opportunity to bring the Air Force standard for managing communications requirements to Tinker AFB and to improve the communications requirements process for our customers. We give credit to our partners at AFSPC 38OSS/OSM who programmed CIPS and the Work Order system. It is very intuitive, easy to follow and naturally follows the requirements process.
