The 72nd Security Forces Squadron held various events from May 10 through May 17, 2024, to honor and celebrate National Police Week.

The annual observance dates to 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.

Police Week at Tinker Air Force Base kicked off May 10 in front of the Base Exchange with a Security Forces display of uniforms, weapons and working military dog.

An opening ceremony was held on May 13, followed by a ruck and bowling tournament later in the day. A golf tournament was held May 17 at the Tinker Golf Course.

May 14 began with a Defender’s Challenge, a series of physical challenges designed to put the Defenders skills and physical prowess to test.

On May 16, a final guard mount ceremony was held to honor fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
