  • Tinker Celebrates Hispanic Heritage

    Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, recognizing the achievements and contributions of Hispanic Americans. The observation was first introduced in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson. It was later expanded by President Ronald Reagan to cover a 30-day period, as it coincides with the national independence days in several Latin American countries.

  • Sebren takes command of 72nd Air Base Wing

    The Wildcatters of the 72nd Air Base Wing welcomed a new commander on June 25, 2021. Col. G. Hall Sebren, Jr. accepted command of the wing from Air Force Sustainment Center Commander Lt. Gen. Gene Kirkland during a ceremony at the Tinker Event Center. Sebren, who succeeds Col. Paul Filcek, is no stranger to the AFSC. He was previously the vice commander of the Ogden Air Logistics Complex at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. While Sebren is “humbled and honored to lead the Wildcatter team,” he said he is also looking forward to working with the base’s mission partners including the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex, 552nd Air Control Wing, 507th Air Refueling Wing, and the Navy’s Strategic Communications Wing ONE.

    The 72nd Air Base Wing continues to prohibit the use of small Unmanned Aircraft Systems in restricted airspace in an effort to ensure the safety and security of the base personnel, facilities and aircraft.

  • Tinker to hold mass COVID vaccine clinic March 27

    The 72nd Medical Group has partnered with the Oklahoma County Public Health Department to do a mass COVID vaccination clinic on March 27 for FIRST DOSE of Moderna. The clinic will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Bldg. 1094 (the base medical treatment facility). Anyone 18 and older with base access is eligible to be vaccinated. Active duty military and dependents will have designated priority times. Due to the partnering with the local county, the DOD vaccination schema is not being followed. A valid base ID is required. The medical group wanted to stress there is a large volume of vaccines available to reach military, military dependents, civilians, contractors, retirees and anyone else with base access and ID.
  • Tinker reduces energy consumption during energy crisis, preserves mission capability

    Tinker Air Force Base preserved mission capability as 72nd Air Base Wing Civil Engineers took a proactive stance this week to assist Oklahoma energy partners and the community in finding ways to reduce base energy consumption while still preserving the integrity of industrial facilities. The state of Oklahoma saw multiple winter storms and record-low temperatures this week causing strains across the electrical grid, even resulting in some planned rolling power outages. According to Base Energy Manager Joey Hunter, the storm put an unusual stress on all three of Tinker’s utility providers and their customer base.
  • Tinker technical sergeant receives Bronze Star

    A technical sergeant from Tinker Air Force Base’s 72nd Operational Support Squadron received the Bronze Star Medal for his service in Syria and Iraq. Tech. Sgt. Joe Lopez Jr. received the decoration in a Jan. 13, 2021, ceremony held on Tinker’s diagonal Runway 13/31. From Oct. 10, 2019, to March 31, 2020, Lopez was assigned as the noncommissioned officer in charge of Air Operations and lead landing zone safety officer for the 441st Air Expeditionary Squadron at the Kobani Landing Zone in Syria.
