Col. Evan Miller will succeed Col. Paul Waugh today as the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center vice commander.

Four months ago, Colonel Miller, former 76th Propulsion Maintenance Group commander, was promoted to OC-ALC/CV but did not immediately transition to his new position. Instead, in the interim before Colonel Waugh retired, Colonel Miller served as the 76th Maintenance Wing vice commander.

"I especially appreciate Colonel Miller's leadership. He has a wealth of knowledge that will be invaluable in everyday execution and in strategic planning for the future," said Maj. Gen. David Gillett, OC-ALC commander. "He is a terrific warrior Airman and I am proud to serve with him."

Colonel Miller arrived at Tinker in 2007 and became the OC-ALC director of Plans and Programs. Since then, he's served in three consecutive positions at Tinker. He said he's ready for the fourth.

"I'm honored to get a chance to serve as vice commander and I'm thrilled to get to stay here a little longer. Not many people get this opportunity and I'm going to take full advantage of it and use what I've learned in my previous positions," Colonel Miller said. "We have a lot of great people here and our mission is extremely important. I'm looking forward to getting a chance to meet more great people; they are what make this place a national treasure."

As General Gillett's vice, Colonel Miller said he will do his best to support the general and OC-ALC's Executive Director Ross Marshall, along with their objectives and the mission.

"I think we've got a great strategic plan to support the Air Force's mission ... aircraft availability, taking care of our people, improving depot maintenance performance and taking care of the installation," Colonel Miller said. "It's my job to help build teams and continue to get everyone moving in the same direction, focused on our mission."

Colonel Miller said he thinks his Tinker tenure, particularly as the maintenance wing vice commander, will help in this capacity.

"I've had a really unique opportunity to see Tinker from a lot of different perspectives, all within the ALC," the colonel said. "The wing vice commander position just gave me another perspective and better appreciation for the size and scope of the operation. It gave me more exposure to the great things going on and the complexity of running a big operation."

Not only does Colonel Miller have the experience, but he also has the support of his former commander, Maj. Gen. Bruce Litchfield, 76th Maintenance Wing commander.

"I can't say enough great things about Colonel Miller's performance both as the propulsion group commander and the maintenance wing vice commander. Both are demanding positions, which require aggressive leadership focused on achieving results," General Litchfield said. "His leadership was instrumental in the maintenance wing fostering a quality and safety-focused culture while, at the same time, delivering more capability to the warfighter than ever before.

"We are lucky he will remain at Tinker to assume duties as the center vice commander," General Litchfield said. "He has a passion for both the people as well as the mission. I have great confidence in his abilities and have no doubt he will excel in his new position."

Colonel Waugh said it takes time adjusting to being a vice commander versus a commander.

"It's a lot different being a vice than it is being a commander. He has to work through that change in life of no longer being in charge," Colonel Waugh said. "This job is also the director of Propulsion for the Air Force, so my advice to him, even though he comes from engines, is 'enjoy the ride, there's never a dull moment when it comes to engines. Just get ready.'"
