Avoid frustration for visitors: follow proper EAL procedures Published March 12, 2010 By Micah Garbarino Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Everything had been planned to the last detail -- tables set, silverware polished. The VIP attendees to the event had been invited and confirmed weeks ago, everything ran smoothly until the call came in. "Help, I'm stranded at the gate and I can't get on base." The 72nd Security Forces Squadron doesn't want this scenario to happen to anyone at Tinker. In January, the Air Force implemented a new policy affecting everyone submitting an Entry Authorization List. These authorization lists are used to permit access for groups of people who do not have military, civilian or contractor identification cards. The lists are most commonly used for large or special functions or ceremonies like weddings or dinners. "We are here to help. If people are aware of the proper procedures for filling out an EAL and allow the time needed to process the forms, then everything will work out great," said Staff Sgt. Jillian Vroenen, 72nd SFS Pass and ID. The new policy requires requestors provide forms to Pass and ID in advance. The proper forms may be downloaded from Tinker's internal homepage or obtained from Pass and ID, located just outside the Eaker Gate. Because pen and ink changes to the EAL are not allowed, Sergeant Vroenen said getting the list done early is best. Pass and ID will take lists up to two weeks in advance. Sponsors can call and check on the status of an EAL any time leading up to an event and it is a good idea to call Pass and ID the day of an event to make sure the approved list has made it out to the gate. While EALs are a great way to get base access for large groups of people, there is another option for those who need to sponsor a group of less than seven people onto base. The Sponsor Line (734-2605) can be used by anyone with a Common Access Card who is calling from an on-base telephone number. This can also be accomplished in person with a visit to Pass and ID. Sponsors will need to provide a contact number, visitors' names, destination, date of arrival and departure. Visitors will have to provide additional information when they arrive at Pass and ID. With any entry to base, during heightened tensions and increased FPCON measures, visitors may be required to be met at the gate and escorted onto the installation.
