Beavers slip past Nordiques on last second goal Published Sept. 3, 2009 By John E. Banks Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The Tinker Nordiques were six seconds away from ending their two-game winless streak. The Fighting Beavers scored two goals in the final three minutes of the Aug. 28 game to beat the Nordiques 6-5 in Oklahoma City Adult Hockey League Division II action at the Blazers Ice Centre. The Nordiques got on the board first. Defenseman Chris Horner sent a blistering wrist shot from the blueline and James McCarron pounced on the rebound, putting it in the net for an 1-0 lead at the 3:21 mark of the first period. The Nordiques made it 2-0 as left winger Bryson Harley received a cross-ice pass from defenseman Sam Lomanaco, who sent a quick wrist shot through the lower left corner of the net. The Fighting Beavers answered before the end of the period as center Jonathan Taylor scored on a breakaway. The Nordiques lengthened their lead to 3-1 as center Jason Stefanski scored his 20th goal of the season on a pass from defenseman Chris Beatty at 4:22. The Nordiques traded goals with Beavers for the remainder of the second period. The goal scorer for the Nordiques was McCarron, getting his second of the game and 18th on the year at 12:33. The Beavers scored two quick third period goals knotting the score at 4-4. The Nordiques responded as Harley notched his first goal of the game, putting his team up 5-7 with just over 7 minutes to play. The Fighting Beavers knotted the score at five with three minutes left as Taylor scored his second goal of the game. Each team had numerous chances to put the game away over the last three minutes of action. At the end, there was a mad scramble in front of the Nordiques net and with only six ticks left on the clock, Taylor put away the game winner. "I hate losing like that," said James Behn. "We played real well for two and half periods and we let our guard down for several minutes and that is what happens." The three stars of the game for the Nordiques were McCarron, who scored two goals and an assist; Harley, with two goals; and goaltender Dan Publicover, who made 29 saves. After the loss, the Nordiques fall to 6-4-1. "We are in a mid season slump right now," McCarron said. "We will rebound and we will defend out title with honor, pride, and dignity."
