Action Line: CAC card issue Published Aug. 9, 2009 By 72nd Air Base Wing Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, OKLA. -- Q: Could you please explain the policy for getting a CAC card reset? Several of my employees were able to get their cards reset. Other times, they are told that they need to set an appointment, which if you have been locked out requires you to have someone else set up the appointment. All of the work done by these employees requires the computer. I have 35 employees and no less than eight to 10 times a week they are having to get their card reset. The only two places that they can go to reset their pin is in Bldg. 3001, which is a parking nightmare, or drive to the other side of the base to headquarters, where military have preference. I hear the same complaints from the other supervisors. Is there anything that can be done? This is very frustrating for everyone. A: When a user enters the incorrect PIN three times the CAC will become locked. Recently an issue with the CAC reader software was discovered which caused the CAC to become locked. This issue has been resolved. CACs cannot be reset over the phone because the card needs to be put in the reader in order to establish a new pin. Resetting a CAC card may take up to 10 minutes. Unfortunately, the wait time is unpredictable as walk-in customers are assisted on a first come, first served basis. The ID card section in Bldg. 460, Room 119, supports walk-in customers from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays. They will never turn a customer away because they do not have an appointment. Almost 90 percent of their customers are walk-ins. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, select technicians support active duty personnel from 8 to 10 a.m. Also, the ID card section is open to customers the first Saturday of the month from 8 a.m. to noon (unless the first Saturday is a holiday, then the following Saturday will be opened). There are several workstations available to reset CAC passwords. Additionally, personnel with a CAC can schedule an appointment at the following secured site: https://wwwmil.tinker.af.mil/, quick links, CAC-Bldg. 460 or CAC Bldg. 3001G; however, 72nd Communication Squadron is the POC for that office. A second party with a CAC can assist the member to set up a new account online to make an appointment. If the member already has an established account, he or she can sign into the Web scheduler (with assistance of the second party logged on with a CAC). The member will use their user name and password originally assigned to log into the CAC ID Web scheduler.
