Agencies available to help base community stay mentally, spiritually fit Published Dec. 17, 2008 By 72nd Medical Operations Squadron TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla., -- A healthy and fit force is essential for our military and civilian workforce to maintain a readiness posture and war-fighting capabilities. "The most important weapon system in the US military is people, and their health and fitness is the basic guarantor of military success at all levels of engagement," states an Air Force directive. Because our greatest resource is personnel, it is imperative that we create a culture in which a healthy lifestyle is the norm. In preparing the human weapon system, we most often think about ensuring we are physically fit to encounter any challenge that comes our way. However, physical fitness is merely one aspect of "fit to fight." We must also ensure that we, both military and civilian alike, are emotionally, socially, and spiritually fit to face any difficulties that life presents. There are a multitude of helping agencies at Tinker Air Force Base that can assist in developing and promoting the wellness of our military and civilian force. As Wingmen, it is important that we create a culture in which help-seeking is encouraged and promoted. It truly is a strength to recognize that optimal performance will only come through continued preparation of the human weapon system....physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually.
