Customs and Courtesies: What to do during Reveille, Retreat, and Taps on Tinker Air Force Base

Reveille and Taps

  • Reveille indicates the start of the duty day at 7:00 a.m.

    No action is required.

  • Taps plays at 10:00 p.m. indicating the end of the day and quiet hours.

     No action is required.

 

Retreat 

Retreat plays at the end of the duty day Monday - Friday at 5 p.m.

Stop.

  • Stop all activity if outside
  • Face in the direction of the flag or music
  • Stand at parade rest if in uniform

 

National Anthem 

(Immediately follows retreat)

  • Stand at attention and salute if in uniform
  • If civilian, put your hand over your heart and take off your hat

In a vehicle or building?

  • If driving, pull to the side of the road
  • Turn on hazard lights and remain motionless
  • If in a building, do not exit if music has already started
  • Wait until the music has finished before exiting
  • Applies to base housing residents
