Tinker Air Force Base -- As the new Commander of the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center, I am humbled and honored to serve with you as we perform our vital mission. Our goal moving forward is to constantly strive to get "better," as we all play a vital role in the defense of this great nation. Each and every one of you sharpens the swords of our warfighters.

What does it mean to sharpen the sword? The answer lies in the Airman's Creed. It reads, "I am an American Airman. I am a warrior. I have answered my nation's call." Our job is to support the warfighter and make sure they have the tools they need to succeed. When we do our job effectively and efficiently, we know the warfighter has a sword that is honed to a fine razor's edge. It is as sharp as we can possibly make it. We do our part, so they can do theirs.

I value all of our people. The knowledge and skill of our workforce, combined with the help and support of our families, Team Tinker partners, community leaders, and friends have greatly contributed to the Global War on Terror and to our nation's defense. Your efforts have helped make us the premiere facility we are today.

The OC-ALC has a well-deserved reputation for excellence, well known across the Department of Defense. One reason for our success is we have not been content to rest on our accomplishments. You know, as I do, true excellence means constantly striving to get "better." I especially want us to focus on Supporting the warfighter, Stewardship, Suppliers, Safety and quality, and Team. Improvement in these areas will make us a much stronger organization and a "better," safer place to work. We are also a leader in the Lean journey and must focus on improving our many processes as we continue to implement Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century.

So, as we move forward in our efforts to get "better," I encourage you to keep your eyes on our ultimate goal. We are serving our country here at the OC-ALC while our nation is at war. We have answered a high calling. We are sharpening the swords of our warfighters.

This country and I value your service and contributions. I am proud and honored to serve next to every one of you. Thank you and your families for your sacrifices.
