Chief Master Sgt. Roger Turnipseed, with the 552nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and also with the Tinker Chief’s Group, passes the POW/MIA flag to a member of the 72nd Force Support Squadron during the 24-hour Vigil Run as part of Tinker’s POW/MIA events. Members of Team Tinker took turns carrying the POW/MIA flag around the Tinker track from 7:30 a.m. Sept. 15 to 7:30 a.m. Sept. 16 when it was moved from the track to the POW/MIA Breakfast at the Tinker Club. The flag was then passed to the youngest Airman at the breakfast and posted at the front of the room during the ceremony. After the breakfast, the flag was handed off to participants of the POW/MIA Ruck March and carried for the entire 10K. Later that day, the flag was taken to the Del City American Legion and VFW Post 9969 for a POW/MIA Retreat Ceremony. At the retreat, it was announced that the flag had been moved by approximately 120 Airmen, civilians, contractors, and dependents for a total of 160.15 miles. (Air Force photo by Kelly White)

Team Tinker members participated in a 5K/10K ruck march around the base in memory of Prisoners of War and those Missing In Action Sept. 16. Participants were asked to bring canned food items that were distributed at checkpoints along their route. As they marched on and hit the checkpoints, they filled their rucks with the canned items to symbolize the hardships that POWs and MIAs went through. With Phase 1 of the construction on Air Depot from Reserve Road to Gott Gate ending, Phase 2 begins. In the second phase, Gott Gate will be closed from 6 a.m. Sept. 24 until 6 a.m. Oct. 23. Drivers should plan accordingly. The road closure is needed to allow the contractor to perform a full depth repair and replacement of the roadway. "Ghost Rider," a B-52H Stratofortress that was pulled from the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz., to replace another damaged B-52, arrived at Tinker Air Force Base in December 2015.
